Can this also be for next quarter? 1)American War of Independence- America gained independence from Britain and created their own government. Britain might still be in control of America. 2)Louisiana Purchase- America gained twice as much land as their previous size and extended west. The west expanded. 3)Mexican-American War- gained California, New Mexico, and most of southwest. 4)The Pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock- if it weren't for this, then the whole course of U.S. history would be different. 5)Civil War- if this hadn't happened, then slavery and restricted rights for women (overall, democratic values) would still be present today.
1) I agree with Catherine that the American War for Independence was estremely important, but to be more specific I would argue the battle of Saratoga was the most important battle because it ensured our alliance with France 2) The Enlightenment Period because it provided new thoughts about how government should be run, heavily influencing American political development 3) The French and Indian War because it gave colonists a new perspective of the British causing them to believe they can win independence 4) The battle of antitam because it ensured Lee could not pursue Northerners further, marking the turning point of the civil war 5) Adam's last min. appointment of Marshall as it has heavily influenced Surpreme Court powers and shaped the way our government functions. For example in the court case Marbury vs. Madison it gave the Supreme Court judicial review
1) I agree with David when he says the French and Indian War. This definitely changed the colonists way of thinking. 2) American Revolution because the US had to win the war after their views changed in order to gain independence from Britain. 3)Making of the Constitution because it gave us a stable form of government. 4)Civil War because it did help address the issue of slavery and the overall issues between the north and the south. 5) Ideas of expansion which include the Louisiana purchase and the southwest. This caused America to grow as a nation and ultimately as a power.
1) I agree with Catherine and David about the importance of the American Revolution; If it hadn't happened, America would not be its own country and we would be talking like the British
2) I agree with Nia that the creation of the Constition was important. It helped establish a new type of government and helped ensure the peaceful exchange of power. If this idea hadn't worked, we might not have a democratic government.
3) The Civil War was important because it helped start the civil rights movement. If the South had won, then America would've have been split into two separate countries.
4) WWI helped everyone see America as a leading world power. It gave us a lot of confidence and we had a booming economy during that time. I think it was inevitable that at some time or another America would become a super-power, and WWI helped make it known sooner.
5) The Great Depression is definetly an momentous event in history, though not a enjoyable one. However, it was because of this that numerous reform programs were established, including Social Security.
1) I agree with the American Revolution; no revolution, no America. 2) I agree with Nia and Priyanka about the Constitution. This was the middle ground between the monarchy America had escaped and the Articles of Confederation which didn't have the power to do hardly anything. 3) Northwest Ordinance was very important because it allowed for new states to join the US. This fueled the move westward and also added tension to the issue of slavery. 4) The Civil War was important for two main reasons: A) it tested the strength of America and B) it resulted in the end of slavery. 5) The New Deal was a landmark in American history because it not only helped us survive the Great Depression, but also started (as Priyanka said) many reform programs that have lasted through the years. -Caroline Worthy
1 american revolution- because without it we would still be part of england and not america.
2 French and indian war- agreeing with davi because this was the catylist to the revolution and americas freedom because it gave the colonists a new attitude.
3 manifest destiny/louisiana purchase- because it was a period of expansionism and without it we would be all cramped up like the people in europe
4 Civil war- it ended slavery and established that america was a whole once again under one president.
5 Constitution- as priyanka said because it did set the tone for american gov't 3
Discussion Blog: I've created this blog to supplement class discussion. Questions will be posted at random and often coinciding with discussion questions from class.
Points: Each time you make a comment to any question on this blog you will get 1 speaking point added to your discussion grade (for all you modest mice).
Comments: Should be at least 6 lines in length, thoughtful, relevant, polite, politically correct, clean, and feature analysis and evidence. They should also address at least one other person's comment on the question (unless of course you are the first to comment!)
