Consider some trends you remember from the year and your understanding of history. What is in store for us in the future as Americans? What direction are we headed? Will we continue in power and prominence? What is crucial for us to keep the same or change in this country?
I think that we will continue in power and prominence, as one of the greatest industrial nations in the world and most developed. Our technology will continue to advance rapidly and democracy is crucial in staying the same in this country. Pretty much every race has equal rights, except for some immigration laws.
ReplyDeleteOverall, America is headed into a positive direction although I don't think the economical aspect of America will be as powerful as the last few decades. One main reason is that there's a lot of outsourcing and competition from other countries including China and India in which the salaries and wages given in the US are significantly greater than those in other countries, prompting influxes of immigrants to come over. Also, I've noticed in major/college research that Americans tend to major in majors such as finance, accounting, and of course the doctors/lawyers resulting in a declining rate of engineers and scientists which will probably be filled by H1's from other countries.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of power, I believe USA will still remain the biggest superpower in the world as we have a sizable defense budget and are the technological leaders in terms of warfare.
Some changes I think are necessary are probably social security spending cuts and also more budget allocation towards education and extracurricular programs. I think Social Security started out as a well-thought program that benefited seniors but in today's economy and especially the deficit plus the mortality age increasing, the social security payouts are just a huge burden for the citizens in America to pay for. I also think Education as a whole should receive a bigger chunk of the budget and also an allocation towards extracurricular activities and programs to enhance the nation's youth. Some schools don't even have any extracurricular programs and their students miss out on many enriching programs.
Overall, I'd say the biggest problem/issue that we need to fix right now is the National Debt, to lower it, we'd probably need to decrease the budget in the aspect of defense spending which isn't a very "likeable" idea to many but I don't think we could lower the budget in other areas effectively enough to chip at the national debt. If the national debt continues to expand at its current rate, newer US citizens and young people will have to pay more and more taxes which hurts the American Dream and the economy as well.
I agree with Catherine. The USA is moving in a positve light. Yeah, as a country we have our ups and downs. but we learned from our past incidents and we learn to strive. our technology is growing rapidly and i believe its gone continue to grow.
ReplyDeletethe constant growth in technology and the rights of individuals are cruical for this country to continue to grow.
ReplyDeleteOne particular trend that is obvious is the Panics and boom and busts that has often occurred throughout history. Last year was a particularly bad year for not only America, but for a good number of other countries around the world. There were multiple bankruptcies and corruptions (ie Madoff ponzi scheme), which is similar to the Progressive Era and the Great Depression. America is also having problems with health care, Social Security, immigration, education, terrorism, and other issues. In my opinion, these problems are very difficult to fix and may never become better.
ReplyDeleteAmerica used to be one of the most powerful and influential countries. I find that America is still powerful and influential, but not as strongly as how it was in the past. Certain countries such as China are now gaining more power and prominence due to their ever-growing economy.
It is important for America to change it's thoughts about certain issues and to start looking and thinking beyond what others say. There are many people, mainly those in the middle and upper class, who are strongly opposed to the Obama Heath Care plan. But we need to think about how there are millions of Americans who aren't lucky enough to have good health insurance. Another problem that is worth addresses is about education. If America changed it's education to that of another country whose students are highly successful, than it's possible that there will be more Americans attending college and less high school dropouts.
However, we should not change our strong efforts in trying to save the earth.

I think America will keep growing as it had been in its lifetime. We will continue to be one of the superpowers in the world as others compete. China is an upcoming superpower that has had a booming ecnomy start in the 1970's. They have many advantages such as more labor power and much lower wages. America will be behind China in the future. America needs to keep being a producer and not just a consumer nation
ReplyDeleteIn the long run, America will be very prosperous. Although the economy is not at it's highest potential. We will still be one of the leading nations, or maybe THE leading nation for goods and etc. As well as, we will be the superpower of the world. Helping other countries with problems along the way. Basically, Prosperous, Peace Bringer, and etc.

In the future, I think America will continue to be powerful and prosperous. America will continue to grow and will still be a major power in the world. Like Edgar said, America will be the leading nation and will be a superpower in all aspects. America is a superpower and will remain a superpower forever.
