There are many "what ifs" in the civil war. Explain what you think are some of the most important events and what would have been changed if their outomes were different.
What if the South had won the civil war? I think that slavery might still exist to present day and America might even have further divided due to the Confederacy's weak central government and states' rights. There will also be probably another inevitable civil war. What if the war was ended before the Emancipation Proclamation? I think that slavery wouldn't have been abolished even if the North won the civil war because only after Emancipation Proclamation did the North establish abolishing slavery as their primary moral goal.
If the South would have won the Civil War. this just adds on to what i said in class. if the south would have won then there would be slavery in the big areas. not so much as the small. but at the sametime since its such a long time ago it could be in reverse. the small areas still believe in it but the bigger areas doesnt. it could go both ways. just depends on how you look at it.
Adding to what Catherine said, If the South did win the Civil War I think that if anything there would have been another war when the Union was able to rethink their strategies. Because Lincoln's first goal was to keep the Union together then I would assume that he would continue to fight for the Union. Also because of the lost war, the Emancipation Proclamation would probably be written later in history because the war and regaining the confidence of the Union would be the major priority. -Nia Davis
I agree with the statements Catherine and Nia made, but it wouldnt be really possible for the South to win the war. If the South had ended up with greater advantages the North would never give up, so the South wouldn't necessarily win but if they had greater resourcess they could contend with the North longer until ultimately the South gave up or until the North managed to defeat the South.
I think that the biggest what if would be what if the south won. i do not even want to think about what america might be like now if the south had one the war. i agree with cathrine in that 4sure we would still have slavery and i think that instead of dividing the country further it might have grown and spread not only in our country but world wide given the influence we have as a nation today.
Discussion Blog: I've created this blog to supplement class discussion. Questions will be posted at random and often coinciding with discussion questions from class.
Points: Each time you make a comment to any question on this blog you will get 1 speaking point added to your discussion grade (for all you modest mice).
Comments: Should be at least 6 lines in length, thoughtful, relevant, polite, politically correct, clean, and feature analysis and evidence. They should also address at least one other person's comment on the question (unless of course you are the first to comment!)
