After the War of 1812, the U.S. didn't take sides with any European nation after the conclusion was neutral in that no side won between U.S. and Britain. The U.S. became a nationalistic nation in that everything was unified. Writers began to use American scenes and themes in their stories. The U.S. was turning from agrarian to manufacturing. Problems like sectionalism between the north and south was becoming more clear, as with the "American System". It was profitable for the north with the protective tariff, national bank, and internal construction of transportation, but the south really provided all of the raw materials for manufacturing. Having a national bank instead of state banks was less likely to lead to depression in the economy as the nation works as a whole.
I agree with Catherine. The end of the War of 1812 brought about unity. America worked together to fought away outsiders. It answered a lot of finanicial problems. but the new question would possibly be "Whats next........."
Discussion Blog: I've created this blog to supplement class discussion. Questions will be posted at random and often coinciding with discussion questions from class.
Points: Each time you make a comment to any question on this blog you will get 1 speaking point added to your discussion grade (for all you modest mice).
Comments: Should be at least 6 lines in length, thoughtful, relevant, polite, politically correct, clean, and feature analysis and evidence. They should also address at least one other person's comment on the question (unless of course you are the first to comment!)
